NARS Multiple Tints: Swatches

NARS Multiple Tints

So I ran across these at the store this weekend and had to give you guys a good swatch. I was soooo excited to try these out, but they are WAYYYY sheerer than I expected (not bad though!!).

The top is Turks & Cacos, then below is Cadeques and at the bottom is Beverly Hills.

I was going to get Turks & Cacos-- but it was sold out, so I settled with Cadeques. Turks & Cacos is the sheerest and I figured I already have enough orange/coral blushes.

What I love about the formula is the glossy texture. It leaves a nice, dewey sheen on your cheek. Very natural and perfect for summer!

NARS Pure Sheer SPF Lip Treatment

NARS Pure Sheer SPF Lip Treatment in Lava

Wow I'm loving this!!! When I heard about these being released, I wasn't sure if I'd be into them. After trying this on, I feel in love with the creamy texture and light coverage!

Has a thick consistency-- almost like Fresh's Sugar Lip Treatment- but maybe a little less thick. The light pink is subtle, but it does show up with some shine.

Loving the SPF for the summer too!

Fresh Brown Sugar Hand Cream--- the best of the best?

Fresh Brown Sugar Hand Cream
I was browsing the Fresh  line at C.O. Bigelow and stumbled upon this lovely hand cream. I've heard great things about the Brown Sugar Body Scrub- which I too tried (passed because I'm trying to finish up my Clinique Skin Sparkle-- which barely has a dent in it!!). So after the skin scrub, I applied this to my hands. I first have to say that this is one of the  most lovely scents I've ever had the pleasure of experience. It's a lemon/sugar scent and it reminds me of a super nice lemonade on a hot summer day. Very clean. It's quite thick and as soon as it is applied, it is absorbed by your skin. It leaves a nice, supple texture to your hands that lasts and lasts.

From Amazon:

Bethenny Frankel's Naturally Thin & Healthy Eating Goals

Bethenny Frankel's Naturally Thin

I was a sucker and paid $16 for this at Borders--- really cheap at Amazon, but I really wanted it and wanted to get motivated to get healthy again. So far, the book is a really good read and a lot of it makes sense. Bethenny talks about "rules" she's set up to being "Naturally Thin" that start with treating eating like your bank account. It's all about balance. So if you eat something like pasta for lunch, you need to balance out the starches with vegetables and meat in the evening. This makes a lot of sense and I think a lot more doable than counting every calorie that you eat.

Another point I liked is "the differential", meaning the difference between eating something really healthy and something horrible for you, but really really tasty. She uses an example of eating beef chili and turkey chili. Both of these taste similar so eating the "unhealthy" version with beef isn't worth the extra calories to her than eating the turkey version. Another choice between poached chicken breast and butter cooked NY strip steak has a huge differential. She'd much rather enjoy eating the steak (who wouldn't!?) than eating the chicken-- so the pleasure difference, or differential is much greater with the steak.

I'm going to use this as motivation--- eating more healthy and working out regularly. I feel like I've slipped into a habit of obsessing- over sweets, cravings etc. I want to eat- not out of necessity for pleasure. I would also like to work out at least 4 times a week- 30 minutes of cardio and 15 or so of weight training. I'm at 151, but I'd like to get down to maybe 135.

Kiehl's Super Straightening Cream
I got this as a sample a long time ago and just cracked it open this morning when I was straightening my hair. I was surprised what a great "slip" it has- if that makes sense. It's a substantial cream, but not too thick and not oily. Coated my hair very well and it remained easy to manage and silky all day.

Couldn't find this on the Kiehl's website, but think they may have replaced it with The Heat Protecting Silk-Straightening Cream:

Formulated especially for wavy, frizzy, or curly hair in need of smoothing, our unique straightening cream contains a blend of natural ingredients to help straighten out hair and tame frizz without weighing hair down. Infused with extracts derived from Soy Beans, Sesame Seeds and Sunflower Seeds, this unique formulation locks out humidity while conditioning and protecting hair from over-drying and breakage. Light and greaseless, our straightening cream gives hair an ultra-straight and silky-smooth look with incredible shine.

Lush Mint Julips Lip Scrub

Lush Mint Julips Lip Scrub
After hearing some hype about this product on youtube and from Lollipop26, I knew I'd have to give it a try. It seems counterintuitive, but whenever I regularly moisturize my lips, I find that I need to exfoliate almost daily. It's been hard to apply lipstick on the go because I've been noticing unexpected unevenness.

I decided on the Mint Julips because 1 I love mint and 2 I love chocolate/sweetness and 3 mint chocolate ice cream is my fav!! The other flavor was bubblegum and I sweet lips (??), but I thought this was the best. Bubblegum is self explanatory (not a huge fan in general) and sweet lips is a chocolate flavor. I felt like this was definitely effective for scrubbing lips clean, but I noticed the messiness in application.
The first time I tried this, I think the portion I took out of the pot actually fell off my finger and into the sink. So I wouldn't necessarily take this with me for application out of the house. Because of this, I think I ended up using a little more than usual- but maybe I'm not using it entirely correctly. Bonus is that when you're done scrubbing, you just lick this off your lips and you get a sweet treat out of it :)

C.O. Bigelow Lemon Scented Candle

C.O. Bigelow Lemon Scented Candle
I picked this along with two other Bigelow candles (vanilla and coconut) the other night. The store is having a buy any 2 Bigelow products and receive the third for free. So for $40.00 I got 3 huge candles that will last forever.

Right now I have this set in my bathroom and burned it for the first time this morning during my shower. Strongly scented, yet not overpowering and the lemon smells genuine-- not like Mr. Clean or anything artificial. As a bonus, after use the glass container with lid can serve as a fantastic q-tip, cotton ball or other bathroom necessity holder.

C.O. Bigelow Premium Shave Cream

C.O. Bigelow Premium Shave Cream
So this is marketed to men, but I grabbed it to do the deed on myself. Extremely thick cream that lathers well and creates a great barrier for shaving. This was made by Proraso, the maker of the #1 shaving cream in Italian barber shops. Eucalyptus is a main ingredient, so your body (legs, arms...) experience an amazing tingle sensation after use. I really don't think it comes off smelling masculine, just clean and somewhat neutral in scent.

Right now at C.O. Bigelow this is on promotion for only $5!!! In fact all men's shaving products are on sale for $5--- time to stock up for father's day!!

iPhones available for Pre-Order on Apple.com!!

Wow, really excited for this!! I know, not beauty related, but I check all my blogs on the go on my phone already. So the white is currently unavailable for pre-order and delivery on the website- this is the color I want :( If you pre-order, you can either pick up in store on June 24th or it will deliver to you on that date (this is the option I'd opt for. Waiting in long lines at apple...blech!)

The Body Shop Coconut Oil Hair Shine

The Body Shop Coconut Oil Hair Shine $10 for 1.7 FL OZ

I saw this on BellduJourNYC's youtube favorites video. Her hair sounds a lot like mine in texture so I splurged and ordered this on their website. Shipping was fantastic- I think like $2!

The tin is really convenient for travel and for just throwing in your purse to make touchups through the day. I have really dry ends and naturally curly hair that turns into frizz as soon as it enters a humid climate, so I'm always looking for something to maintain order. The product has a great coconut scent and is slightly oily, but easy to work with.

On the back of the tin: Smooths, adds shine, conditions and repairs. Smooth over dry hair.

Easy to carry, nice scent, conditions and adds shine. A great value for $10.

Product I'm Loving: Lush Honey Trap Lip Balm

Lush Honey Trap Lip Balm
I got this a long time ago (as evidenced by the wear on the packaging!), but just recently rediscovered it and have been using it nightly. It has a subtle honey-pollen scent- kind of like smelling daisies (if that makes sense??). Thick consistency, but not too much and has a nice grab to the lips. Does an amazing job at moisturizing lips and stays on all night.

From Amazon:
Chock full of ingredients to make your lips kissably soft and seductively sweet, Honey Trap moisturizes with Shea butter and olive oil, holds in moisture with honey and beeswax and tastes sweet like white chocolate and vanilla (because that's what's in it!). Smooth on some of this heavenly sweet mixture and you'll bare a remarkable resemblance to a temptress used as bait in a trap (think James Bond); this balm will attract lots of honeys to you for kissing. Note: This product may melt and is NOT guaranteed to arrive solid during the summer months!

I usually scrape out a bit with the back of my nail to grab enough product and this has proved to be the best method of application. When I first got this, I used a lip brush and would carry it with me in my bag. This was pretty messy and I ended up giving up on using it.

Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream #17 Plum

Make Up Forever Aqua Cream #17

So I recently blogged about grabbing two of the MUFE Aqua Creams from Sephora. I found the light lavender one to not be all that special and a lot like MAC's Beautiful Iris eyeshadow. I exchanged it for #17 Plum (a burgundy plum shimmer). I've never played with MAC's Artifact Paint Pot, but I imagine this to be a lot like it with a little more plum. Gorgeous color and I think has a lot more versatility than the lighter lavender color I initially picked up. This is nice as a wash of color all over the lid, or build up to create a nice, smokey eye.

NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base

NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base

I got this as an extra with a Sephora buy. After reading some reviews on Temptalia, I was really excited to try this product (after all, I LOVE NARS!). It did not disappoint! Goes on completely translucent and has unbelievable staying power. I do feel like many bases have either pigmentation or alter eyeshadow color in some way. Bases with this good staying power can be tricky to work with, because eyeshadow does stick to the base, making it sometimes hard to apply evenly. This evening, I was working with MAC's Electric Eel and I did have some trouble, but everything worked out. I've heard that applying a light shadow first makes this issue nonexistent.

OPI A Good Mandarin is Hard to Find

OPI A Good Mandarin is Hard to FindSo I almost didn't buy this today because I thought I had a similar shade at home (Opi on Collin Blvd. which is a similar orangish-red). I decided to jump in and purchase anyways- I mean how could OPI have two  identical shades?
OPI Hong Kong Collection, A Good Man-darin is Hard to find NLH47A beautiful orange red shade, with more orange than red- but not construction cone orange by any means. I'd have to say my favorite polish of the moment. Application was a dream after working with the Essie Summer 2010 collection. LOVE IT!

Essie Summer 2010 Collection

Essie Summer 2010 Collection

I ran across this at Ulta today and fell in love with the colors in this quad.

From Amazon:
Essie Summer 2010 Mini 4-Piece Set is a celebration of summer to share...or just to absolutely indulge in! Aside from the wonderful outdoor activities that we wait for all year, we also revel in the opportunity to now wear lighter, brighter and more playful clothing. Finally, we can shed the wool and mohair for cotton and linen. The keyword for summer is: fun! So indulge in seriously sensational color! Don't be shy - make it the time to play with bold, playful color combinations. Essie Summer 2010 Mini 4-Piece Set includes .16 fl oz bottles of the following: Haute as Hello - racy, scorching coral Knockout Pout - hot supercharged pink Demure Vixen - iridescent cocoa Pretty Edgy - vivid palmetto green.

This seems like a fantastic deal-- four of the six colors all for $17. I was thinking each bottle would be maybe half the size of a full bottle- so a pretty good deal. This isn't the case. I think I figured it out and it's like 1/3 or maybe even 1/4 the size of a full bottle. But you do get selection...

I was really excited to try these. I first put Edgy on my toes, but realized green on my toes- doesn't really look that great. Kind of a bad color, for that area, really. So I switched and put the Knockout Pout on my fingers. At first all was well, but as I continued to apply on my left hand (the true challenge to any application- painting with the hand you do not write with) I realized how horrible the formula is! It was a big streaky mess- and I was using ample product with a full brush head each time. In addition to this problem, I realized there was no finish to the polish. Even though I always use a top coat- there seemed to be no shine to the polish- matte and cheap looking. So, needless to say, these will be returning to the store ASAP.

Sephora Haulage

Make Up For Ever Aqua Creams

As soon as Temptalia put these up on her blog, I knew I had to have them! Sooo amazing! They look like MAC paint pots, but the color pay off, finish and lasting power is so much greater. These are also very creamy when applied, but dry to an incredible finish- it says waterproof. I got #18 (lavender) and #11 (gold). I think these will be really nice as a base or even a full wash of color on the lid. The gold could be used as a high light as well- on the cheeks. These are marketed as either for Lips & Cheeks or Eyes & Cheeks (I believe...). So the warmer creams like the coral and pinks would be great as a blush or lipstick--- especially because of their wonderful lasting power. I'm in love...

shu uemura Eyelash curler
I never thought much about eyelash curlers and even though I've had one for a while, never really reach for it. After reading some reviews on the Nordstrom website, I decided to pick this up and give it a go. From what I've read and observed what matters is the silicon pad that eye curlers are equipped with. The shape of Revlon's curler is flat and square shaped- so when you curl, it is inevitable that you will "crimp" your eyelash. shu's curler is curved- just the way that everyone wants their lashes to be! So, I've very excited to integrate this into my routine and will follow up soon with my findings!

My Bronzer Collection

With the weather warming up, I'm dying to have a tan-- but will never lay in a tanning bed again (I know, I know- horrible mistake!). So the answer is in bronzers and self tanners which I have embraced fully. Here is my collection and my thoughts on each.

ELF Warm Bronzer
This has been my favorite bronzer and one of the only products I own that I've hit pan on! Some shimmer, but not too much and warm but not orange. Also very build able and only $3!!

ELF Cool Bronzer
This was hard to photograph so sorry about that. Matte and cool, but not "muddy". Build able and again, $3.

MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in Cheeky Bronze & Gold Deposit
On the left is Cheeky Bronze from Colour Crafted and on the right is Gold Deposit (not sure what collection this is from). These are both nice,  but for some reason, I hardly reach for them. Cheeky bronze is a nice corally bronze color with shimmer and Gold Deposit is a cooler shimmer with large gold flecks.

MAC Blush in Get-Away Bronze
Of course I had to include this from the MAC to the beach collection. Some shimmer to this, but a deep some say "rosey bronze" color. Nice to top off a bronzed look.

NARS Multiple in Malaysia
I just recently got this and haven't been reaching for it very much. It's a cream to powder and great for travel. This is a cool bronzer.

NARS Bronzer in Casino
I love Casino! Everyone raves about Laguna but I think this is where it's at. I like to idea of not needing much product to achieve a desired look and with this, you can certainly do that.  Some shimmer but not very noticeable.

NARS Multiple Duo in Copacobana & St. Barts
I got this for free with a NARS purchase a few months ago. St. Barts is nice, but I don't think designed to be a bronzer. Nice finish and cool.

Rimmel Bronzer in Sun Dancer
This was another good deal at $4.99 from Ulta. There is some shimmer to it, but not much and I feel like it's between warm and cool. Comparing this to the others leaves me thinking this is more powdery.

NYX Bronzer #2
What a deal- 1.15oz of bronzer for $13! Some compare this to laguna (in fact it was mentioned as such in a dupe video), but a much better value. I like that there are several different colors that you can use either together or separately.

Chanel Tan de Soleil Makeup Base
This is my new HG! Very easy to use and I love the cream to powder finish- well not cream really, idk it's hard to describe. I use a contour brush from coastal scents and apply it in a half circle on my cheeks and temples. On the warmer side and no shimmer. I originally bought The powder Terre Epice from Chanel and ended up exchanging it for this due to shimmer with the first.

Temptalia Inspired "Dare to Wear Look" with Dupes

So I was on Temptalia and came across a look Christine did with Aqua, Winkle and Marine Blue that I loved! Almost so much to run out and grab winkle and marine blue.
Well, I started playing at my vanity and discovered I already had two colors to complete this look in my stash:

Christine uses MAC Atlantic Blue, MAC Aqua and MAC Winkle.
I already had MAC aqua but found dupes for the other two in the Coastal Scents 88 shimmer eyeshadow palette (of course these aren't matte). The closest to Atlantic Blue is the bottom row and second from the left. Winkle's dupe is the second row (below the row that's cut off) and third from the left. This was a really fun look and I think I should do more bright eye looks in the future.

Atlantic Blue on the left and Winkle on the right (the dupes!).

Lots of fun!
